Protecting Homes, Preventing Wildfire: The Start of The Tree Crü Initiative

Northern California knows the reality of wildfire all too well. Every summer, we brace for the smoke, the wind, and the uncertainty of what the season will bring. Our neighborhoods sit right on the edge of forests, greenbelts, and fields — beautiful, but often overgrown with brush and trees that can turn into wildfire fuel overnight.

That’s where the Tree Crü Initiative began. Our mission is simple: to protect families and neighborhoods through hazardous tree care and wildfire mitigation.

Starting with Hazardous Tree Care

Our very first project reminded us why this work matters so deeply. A local homeowner was facing two dangerous trees looming over her home. One had already dropped heavy branches, damaging her roof. With winter storms on the way and leaks already forming, the situation was urgent.

Our team stepped in to make the property safe — cutting back the largest tree, removing another that posed a high risk, and, with help from volunteers at A-1 Tree Service, even tarping the damaged roof to get her through the wet season. That project was about more than tree removal — it was about giving someone peace of mind in a stressful moment.

Looking Ahead: Fire Mitigation for Communities

While hazardous tree care for families is a core part of what we do, our vision reaches further. Many of our neighborhoods are surrounded by landlocked greenbelts that have gone untended for years. When left unmanaged, they become a serious wildfire threat, putting entire blocks of homes at risk.

Our next steps as an organization are to expand into these large-scale fire mitigation projects — creating defensible space, clearing overgrown areas, and making our neighborhoods safer together.

Here’s a look at the kind of project Tree Crü is working toward: fire mitigation in Country Heights. Clearing hazardous greenbelts can make the difference in protecting whole neighborhoods during wildfire season.
